Born in Buenos Aires in 1959, ‘Mono’ Fontana made his debut in January 1975, at age 12, as a drummer for Madre Atómica band, with Pedro Aznar and Lito Epumer. He played with Luis Alberto Spinetta, and together they recorded six albums: Madre en Años Luz, Privé, Exactas, Téster de Violencia, Don Lucero and Pelusón of Milk. Simultaneously, he reassembled Madre Atómica, with a new formation alongside Lito Epumer, Guillermo Vadalá and Jota Morelli.
He also shared the stage with masters like Dino Saluzzi, Horacio Labumbe, Litto Nebbia and David Lebón, and informal sessions with Wynton and Branford Marsalis and George Gruntz, among others. Along with Fernando Kabusacki he was in charge of selecting and playing music at the screenings of films of the German Expressionist Cinema at the MALBA (Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires). His first solo work, Ciruelo, came out in 1998, and his second album, Cribas, in 2006.
