Guy Klucevsek - Alan Bern

Guy Klucevsek and Alan Bern compose and perform original music that feeds itself on the strong accordion traditions while combining with the innovation brought by the new, eclectic sounds. They got together for their first project in 1998, from which came out the album Accordion Tribe II: Four Accordions of the Apocalypse, with the contribution of prestigious musicians Pauline Oliveros and Amy Denio. They made their debut in 1999 at the New York club The Kitchen, later to tour many European countries, among which was Austria, for the occasion of Vienna’s International Accordion Festival. These performances provided the material for their two albums released so far: Accordance (2000) and Notefalls (2007).

Guy Klucevsek was born in 1947 and currently lives in Staten Island, New York. As a composer he gave birth to a unique and original repertoire, including his own works and those commissioned to him by celebrated musicians. He has also worked with some of the legendary figures of New York avant garde like John Zorn, Bobby Previte, Eric Frielander, Bill Frisell, Wayne Horwitz and Dave Douglas, with whom recorded the much praised Charms of the Night Sky.

Alan Bern was born in 1955. He is a musician, musicologist, composer, pianist, accordionist and bandleader. He lives in Berlin since 1987, where he composed and directed music for dance, theatre and cinema. He is one of the core figures of the Klezmer movement, whose repertoire fed a great deal of the New York’s new jazz trend. Alan Bern leads the klezmer music ensemble Brave Old World, with which participated in the movie Itzhak Perlman: In the Fiddler’s House, earning an Emmy in 1996.
