Colina Miralta Sambeat Trío

Passion and creativity are present in this perfect combination of jazz, Latin music and flamenco. The trio made up by Colina, Miralta and Sambeat was consolidated with their performance at the festival New York Flamenco Reunión, captured in an album that bears the same name and was released in 2007.

Javier Colina, a virtuoso self-taught double bassist, has contributed to acclaimed jazz musicians including George Cables, John Hicks and Jimmy Owens, and also to flamenco artists like Tomatito and Enrique Morente, Chano Domínguez and Martirio, with whom he met in Buenos Aires some time ago. Colina took part in the recording of the successful Lágrimas negras by Bebo Valdés and Diego El Cigala, and has recently been nominated for a Latin Grammy for his wonderful album in duet with Bebo Valdés, recorded in the legendary Village Vanguard in New York.

Perico Sambeat took his first steps in music at the early age of 6 in his native Valencia, and has become the greatest saxophone player of today’s Spanish jazz scene. His years of residence in New York led him to meet and play with the cream of musicians of the city. And, besides his several contributions as a sideman, his own albums boast the participation of top-notch artists like Teté Montoliú, Brad Mehldau and Bruce Barth, to mention just a few.

Born in Barcelona in 1966, Marc Miralta took lessons on drums, classical percussion and Indian tabla since he was 7 years old. Throughout his professional career, he performed at jazz festivals around the world alongside well-known musicians including Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, Tete Montoliú, Joshua Redman and Paquito D’Rivera, all of which did not prevent him from setting up his own trio, OAM, together with Aarón Goldberg and Omer Avital.
