Alex Corezzi's biography

Alex Corezzi

This musician, composer and cultural producer was born in 1972 in Minas Gerais (Brazil) into a family of visual artists. He began playing the electric guitar but later on switched to sax under the influence of his teacher and arranger Edson Rodrigues, a big name in the Brazilian academic music. A graduate from the American School of Modern Music (Berklee Paris), he participated as first alto sax in the Orquesta Tropicalia, which represented Latin America at the Expo 2000 in Germany. He has shared the stage with prestigious artists from Brazil and the world, such as Victor Biglione, winner of a Grammy with Manhattan Transfer, Canadian Jean-Pierre Zanella, and Tristan Banks, one of the most in-demand drummers in the United Kingdom. Alex has also been involved in projects alongside Argentine artists like Fernando Tarrés and his quintet. He recorded four albums under his name: Alma de Gato (2000), Electric Jazz (2004), Live in Recife (2005) and Live in Maceió (2008), in which he also makes use of electronic elements. He is a key “cultural inciter” who has undertaken the task of disseminating the creative instrumental music, and is also the founder and director of the Recife Jazz Festival, which is in its sixth year. In addition to his career as a soloist, he is a member of the collective ASPESAX (Associação Pernambucana de Saxofonistas), which features some of the greatest instrumentalists of the region. In July 2008 he presented his latest show at the Winter Festival in Garanhuns (Pernambuco) alongside drummer and percussionist Enoque Souza, Alex Pilota on laptop and himself on the sax and keyboards, giving birth to a fusion of electronic music, jazz, percussion and Brazilian rhythms to the acclaim of the audience.
