Delfina Oliver's biography

Delfina Oliver

Delfina Oliver was born in Buenos Aires. Her career as a jazz and musical comedy singer began in 1994, appearing at the traditional Café Mozart as a soloist. In 2002 she formed her first stable jazz band oriented to Latin jazz, alongside Manuel Fraga’s quartet. By the early 2003, in a quest for a personal sound, she left traditional and Latin jazz to form a new band with Mariano Otero, who became her arranger. This ensemble was to mark her musical style, which has characterised her until the present day: jazzy and contemporary, and came to accompany her in the recording of her first solo album, Mirada (BAU Records). Later on she faced a new project entitled Monk, Mingus y Miles, arranged by Enrique Norris, as a tribute to these great musicians and composers. In October 2007 she formed a septet with arrangements by guitarist Miguel Tarzia. With this ensemble she recorded the upcoming album Camino, featuring songs of Joni Mitchell and instrumental compositions by Charles Mingus to which Delfina wrote the lyrics.
