Biography

Drummer and composer Adam Cruz was born in New York. He studied with his father, percussionist Ray Cruz, and with Frank Malabe, Keith Copeland, Kenny Washington and Joe Chambers. He has played with Chris Potter, Pharaoh Sanders and Paquito D’Rivera, as well as with David Sánchez and the Mingus Big Band. While on tour with Chick Corea, he recorded A Week at the Blue Note for Origin. He has played with guitarist Charlie Hunter and is currently part of Danilo Pérez’s piano trio. In 2010, Cruz received a grant from the Aaron Copland Foundation to record Milestone (Sunnyside Records), his debut album as composer and conductor.
