Mark Aanderud

Biography

Pianist Mark Aanderud was born in Mexico in 1976. He studied at the School for Improvisational Music, New York, and at Berklee, Boston. He took lessons with Uri Caine, Jason Moran, Vijay Iyer, Jean-Baptiste Müller, Enrique Nery, Ninowska Fernández, and studies composition with Arturo Márquez. In 2000, he moved to Prague, played with Vitek Svec, Pavel Razim, Honza Jakubec and Ivan Audes, and recorded Mark Aanderud Trío 02. Later, he settled in Washington DC and worked with trumpeter Thad Wilson. His last album, Introducing Mark Aanderud, was commissioned by the National Fund for Culture and the Arts. At this year’s BAJ, he will perform with his band Mole, a collaboration with Argentine musician Hernán Hecht.
