David Gilmore

Biography

Guitarist and composer David Gilmore was born in Cambridge, United States. He moved to New York and studied at the New York University under the wing of Joe Lovano and Jim McNeely. Upon graduating, in 1987, he joined the M-Base Collective and later the ensembles of Shannon Jackson, Trilok Gurtu, Graham Haynes, Robin Eubanks and Lonnie Plaxico. In 1990, he became an active member of the jazz-fusion band Lost Tribe and co-produced its first two albums. He has also collaborated with Monday Michiru, Meshell Ndegeocello, Melissa Etheridge, Joan Osbourne, Mavis Staples, Issac Hayes, Boz Scaggs, Tommy Lang of Austria, Rise Robots Rise and Joss Stone. For more than a decade, he has played in a variety of ensembles and backed Wayne Shorter, Dave Douglas, Muhal Richard Abrams, Sam Rivers, Steve Coleman, Don Byron, Cassandra Wilson, Uri Caine, Randy Brecker and David Sanborn. Gilmore’s guitar work appears on over fifty recordings.
