UN ESPACIO VIVO

With the two amazing nights at the Luna Park, for the first time broadcast online, the 2012 Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup ended on a high note. The world’s great tango event saw an extraordinary turnout: over half a million people participated and attended the two-week celebration of a music and culture that is regarded as a hallmark of Buenos Aires around the world. “Tango is at a time of growth, evolution, expansion across its borders, and the more the Festival is in tune with the booming, effervescent scene, the more it turns into a live, provocative space," said Artistic Director Gustavo Mozzi to the German news agency DPA, when it came to assessing the current status of tango, and how it is enhanced by this great tango event in Buenos Aires.

HOY GRAN FINAL DE TANGO ESCENARIO

With the Stage Tango final of the Dance World Cup being held this evening at 7 p.m. at Luna Park, Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup 2012 will come to an end. In addition to the competition, a display of the qualified couples’ quality and virtuosity, the program for tonight includes the concert Piazzolla Electrónico, directed by his grandson Daniel “Pipi” Piazzolla, which will pay homage to one of Astor’s historical ensembles, and the joint performance of great dancer María Nieves with World Cup champions from previous years, in a unique show bringing together several generations of dancers. Also, an online live stream for the Stage Tango final will be available at this website and on the Facebook page of Festivales de Buenos Aires. This will be an excellent opportunity to feel the thrill of a unique competition and become amazed at the quality of the 20 couples that have made it to this decisive phase.

SALUD CAMPEONES

Another night filled with intensity, quality and emotion at the Luna Park ended a few minutes ago with the crowning of Cristian Sosa and María Noel Sciuto, the 2012 world champions in the Stage Tango category, in the tenth Dance World Cup. The second place went to Eber Alejandro Burger-Yesica Lorena Lozano Elias; the third, to Cristian David Correa-Sabrina Amuchastegui; the fourth, to Nicolas Schell-Nair Schinca; and the fifth place was for Hugo Mastrolorenzo-Agustina Vignau. Excited and very thankful, the winners – a couple from Buenos Aires city – celebrated their spectacular victory before a full-house crowd giving them a raving round of applause. This wonderful evening also featured the new version of Piazzolla’s Octeto Electrónico, directed by his grandson Daniel “Pipi”, and a great homage to legendary dancer María Nieves.

HOY, FINAL DE TANGO SALÓN EN EL LUNA PARK

Today, starting at 7 p.m., the great final of Salon Tango will be held at the Luna Park stadium, featuring the couples selected throughout the competition, in the tenth year of the Dance World Cup. Apart from the competition (with music by DJ Mario Orlando), the crowds filling this traditional sporting venue at Corrientes and Bouchard will also enjoy a musical spectacle featuring the Sexteto Mayor and a heartfelt tribute to the legendary dancing couple of Gloria & Eduardo. And so the first of the two tango-filled nights at the Luna Park stadium will go down, and new world champions in this category will be crowned.

EL DOMINGO SE VIVIÓ A PLENO

On a cold Sunday afternoon, cloudy to sunny at times, warmth came from tango and the crowds swamping the Centro de Exposiciones. It was the last day for concerts and other attractions at the main venue of Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup, which will end tomorrow, Tuesday, with the Stage Tango final at the Luna Park stadium and having drawn over half a million people in total in the 2012 edition. Visitors enjoyed to the fullest a day of dancing, cortes y quebradas and beautiful choreography. Sunday’s program included the original stage production by Reenganche Tango Ballet, which explores a physical dialogue between soccer and dance, in the early afternoon; then Tempotango’s original choreography; and the evening’s grand closing milonga (with dancing couples of all ages) and the champions’ gala, preceding the heartfelt concert by Raúl Lavié at nightfall.

NEW WORLD CHAMPIONS IN SALON TANGO! 27 August 2012

¡HAY CAMPEONES MUNDIALES DE TANGO SALÓN!

In an emotionally-charged evening at the Luna Park, Facundo de la Cruz Gómez Palavecino and Paola Florencia Sanz were crowned world champions in the Salon Tango category. Just as expected, it was a hard-fought competition in which, after four rounds, the jury composed of María Nieves, Olga Bessio, Julio Balmaceda, Julio Dupláa, Aurora Lubiz, Javier Rodriguez and Daniel Juárez selected these dancers from the City of Buenos Aires as the winners. A dream night – 41 couples, who made it to the final stage, displayed their talent and skill at the legendary stage of the Luna Park.

THE GREAT RAUL LAVIE TO CLOSE THE FESTIVAL 26 August 2012

EL GRAN RAÚL LAVIÉ CIERRA EL FESTIVAL

Today at 9 p.m. at the Centro de Exposiciones, singer Raul Lavié – accompanied by the ensemble of Juan Alberto Pugliano (piano), Alejandro Guerschberg (bandoneon) and Mario Fernández (bass) – will be featured at the closing concert of the main venue of Tango Buenos Aires Festival and World Cup. Icon of Buenos Aires with his own corner in the city (at Corrientes and Carlos Pellegrini avenues) and boasting a career of over half a century including appearances on films, TV shows, stage productions, Lavié is universally regarded as a symbol of Buenos Aires tango culture. His performance tonight, with a repertoire of classics and his typical charismatic and charming storytelling, will be the best possible closing to a memorable event.

GRAND MILONGA AND CHAMPIONS GALA 26 August 2012

GRAN MILONGA Y GALA DE CAMPEONES

On the last day of the Festival, the Centro de Exposiciones – offering the opportunity to visit the Product Fair and the permanent exhibition dedicated to Astor Piazzolla – will also host a grand milonga to start at 5.30 p.m. and a gala for Dance World Cup champions of previous years at 7.30,two highlights of Sunday’s great program. At the main dance floor, everyone will be invited to dance to great tango classics from the 1940s played by Dj Inca and the Orquesta Misteriosa Buenos Aires, which will pay homage to Carlos Di Sarli. A bit later, the center of the stage will be occupied by the couples that were crowned champions in Stage Tango and Salon tango in the past editions of the Dance World Cup, each with displaying their own style and charisma on stage, together and for this time only.
