Another distinctive feature of BAFICI is the special screening of films that, given the buzz they create and the quality of their directors, occupy a special place in the program. Such is the case of Escuela Normal, by Celina Murga (Ana y los otros, Una semana solos), a documentary about high-school students of Parana City’s Escuela Normal 5, the first teacher’s school founded by Domingo Faustino Sarmiento. This section also features one of the most important and controversial experimental films of all times: Flaming Creatures (trailer), made in 1963 by director Jack Smith. This also bears a direct relationship with the arrival in Buenos Aires of the renowned American critic J. Hoberman, who will present the Spanish edition of his book about American independent cinema.

Other highlights include Anima Buenos Aires, by María Verónica Ramirez, a love declaration to the City (in the style of New York Stories, according to its director) encompassing five animated stories, one of them based on a comic strip by Caloi and another one based on a cartoon story by Carlos Nine, another great cartoonist. And the premiere of El etnógrafo, by Ulises Rosell (author of the highly-praised El descanso and Bonanza), awarded at the Forum DocBuenos Aires 2001 in the framework of the Ventana Sur international market, about the particular personal and professional life of an English anthropologist, John Palmer, who currently serves as legal representative of the Lapacho Mocho community in the Chaco Salteño region, where he lives with his family. Advance tickets to these and other screenings are on sale until Wednesday 11 inclusive. They can be purchased on-site at the movie complex of the Abasto Shopping Mall (Av. Corrientes 3247), every day from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and at Casa de la Cultura (Av. de Mayo 575), Monday to Friday, same times. Also, tickets are available for online purchase at this website. A new BAFICI is coming, and there is a seat waiting for you.
