
2012 BAL Awards
The 14th Buenos Aires International Festival of Independent Film (BAFICI) announces the awards of the 9th edition of the Buenos Aires Lab (BAL).
The Jury of this edition is composed of Benny Drechsel, Santiago Mitre, and Jacobine Van der Vloed.
The awards selected for the 9th edition of the BAL are as follows:
PRIZES AWARDED BY THE JURY
CINECOLOR AWARDS
Cinecolor grants a prize consisting of a DCP copy for a film in the Work in Progress (WIP) section. It also grants a prize consisting of one film print of a feature film of up to 90 minutes in length.
Winner: Viola (Argentina) by Matías Piñeiro, produced by Matías Piñeiro and Melanie Schapiro.
KODAK AWARD
Kodak provides the material for a film print of a feature film of up to 90 minutes in length.
Winner: Agua (Bolivia), directed and produced by Diego Mondaca.
MANTARRAYA AWARD
Mantarraya offers a distribution prize, in the territory of Mexico. The winner receives 5000 dollars for the acquisition of the film. Once the film is finished, Mantarraya will organize the distribution on a date to be agreed upon by both parties.
Winner: Leones (Argentina) by Jazmín López, produced by Benjamín Domenech and Santiago Gallelli.
ÑANDÚ STUDIO AWARD
Estudio Ñandú offers a prize consisting of a maximum of 10 (ten) sessions of eight (8) hours of sound post-production at its facilities, including the use of the studios and all necessary equipment as agreed to by both parties, with the support of 1 (one) qualified operator for editing, mixing or recording.
Winner: Tanta agua (Uruguay) by Leticia Jorge and Ana Guevara, producede by Agustina Chiarino.
LAHAYE AWARD
Lahaye grants an award consisting of one of the following options:- Cinealta HD Camera equipment for 20 (twenty) full-day sessions, or
- One 8-hour session in the editing room plus 6 hours of color correction.
Winner: Viejo Calavera (Bolivia) by Kiro Russo, produced by Kiro Russo.
TAURO DIGITAL AWARD
Tauro Digital awards a prize of 96 hours of post-production services organized in the following manner:
- 80 hours of sound editing.
- 16 hours of sound mixing.
Winner: Viola (Argentina) by Matías Piñeiro, produced by Matías Piñeiro and Melanie Schapiro.
SINSISTEMA AWARD
Sinsistema grants an award that consists of digital laboratory and online 4K post-production services for a feature film of up to 120 minutes.
Winner: Señoritas (Colombia) by Lina Rodríguez, produced by Lina Rodríguez and John Bradley Deane.
PRODUCERS NETWORK AWARD
Marché du Film / Cannes Film Festival provides accreditation to two participants who meet the requisites necessary for participating in the Producers Network (Cannes).
Winners: Pamela Guinea, producer of the project Hasta el sol tiene manchas (Guatemala). Stéphane Zajdenweber, producer of the project Quiero vivir su vida (Chile, France).
AWARDS AND INVITATIONS TO BAL PARTICIPANTS
ARTE AWARD
Arte (France) awards the "International Relations ARTE Prize", consisting of €6000, to a BAL full-length film project.
Winner: La helada negra (Argentina) by Maximiliano Schonfeld, produced by Bárbara Francisco and Fernando Brom.
ARTE AWARD WILL BE GRANTED BY
Rémi Burah
Deputy CEO of ARTE France Cinema, he has participated in the production of nearly 300 films by major French and international filmmakers. He has also been Managing Director of ARTE/cofinova, a cinema investment fund created for ARTE with the Sofica tax system since 2004.
CPH:DOX / DOX:LAB Award
CPH:DOX invites a participant to take part in the next edition of DOX:LAB.
Winner: Julio Hernández Cordón, director of the project Hasta el sol tiene manchas (Guatemala).
FIDMARSEILLE FIDLAB AWARD
One project is invited to take part in the coming edition of FIDLab.
Winner: Ricardo Alves Jr. director of Elon Rabin não acredita na morte (Brazil).
BINGER FILMLAB AWARD
Binger Filmlab awards a "Binger Bal Development Award" to one of the projects selected for BAL. This award consists of 2 script development sessions with a Binger Script Advisor.
Winner: Chico ventana también quisiera tener un submarino (Uruguay) by Alex Piperno, produced by Lukas Valenta Rinner.
