“A young woman returns to Buenos Aires after a 10-year stint in Barcelona. In a few months, she will reunite with her boyfriend, an Andalusian man whom she will marry to later travel across Argentina for their honeymoon. Her job, one of the oldest in the world, is somehow related to power: sadomasochism.” These are Argentine director Homero Cirelli’s introductory words, written in his own hand on his blog, to the plotline of Sado, his seventh film, which has been included in a new section of Panorama eloquently named “Law of Desire.” The film will have three screenings, on Saturday 14, Wednesday 18 and Friday 20 (venues, times and ticket availability can be checked on this website).

Cirelli is a BAFICI habitué, since several of his films have been featured in the festival program in previous years, namely Hadas y duendes in 2009 and the highly praised Porno in the 2006 Argentine competition. About the latter, film critic Horacio Bernades wrote in Página/12 newspaper: “Cirelli (or Homero, as he likes to sign his films) has established himself as an anti-porn director par excellence, taking into account that the utopia of a triple X aesthetics consists of entering where only an endoscope could: into the eye of the sexual hurricane.”
