Gerardo Gandini

Born in Buenos Aires in 1936, this composer, pianist and director is, as well as the main responsible for spreading the contemporary music in our field, a core figure of the Argentinian music. He studied composition with Alberto Ginastera and later on at the Santa Cecilia Academy in Roma with Goffredo Petrassi. Gandini has written over 120 works –symphonic and chamber pieces, operas, musical theatre, music for movies and for solos, and also a vast work for piano.

In 1996, the Fondo Nacional de las Artes (National Fund for Arts of Argentina) granted him an award for his outstanding career (Premio a la Trayectoria) and that same year his opera La Ciudad Ausente was awarded the Premio Nacional de Música (National Music Award).
