Rafael Filippelli is a filmmaker, teacher and writer born in November 1938 in Buenos Aires. He authored many movies, among which are Hay unos tipos abajo (1985), co-directed with David Stivel, and El ausente (1987), as well as several documentaries like Notas de tango (2001) and Esas cuatro notas (2004), portraying Gerardo Gandini’s life and work. Filippelli teaches Film Direction at the Film University (Universidad del Cine), where he is also Coordinator of the Direction Department. This year he published El Plano Justo. Cine Moderno: de Ozu a Godard, a book compiling some of his essays on cinema.
Jazz plays a key role in his latest movie, Música Nocturna, featuring music by Adrián Iaies.
