Sophie Lüssi

Sophie Lüssi studied violin and jazz at the Zurich School of Music, Drama and Dance (HMT) with Pierre Blanchard, a student of the prestigious Stéphane Grappelli. She engaged in jazz workshops with Didier Lockwood and Paolo Fresu, and was a violinist at the National Symphonic Orchestra of Honduras in the years 1994 and 1999. At present, she lives in Buenos Aires. As of 2002 Sophie ventured into tango and had an outstanding participation in José Colángelo’s and Víctor Lavallén’s orchestras. She plays for Leonardo Ferreyra’s string quartet and leads the Sophie Lüssi Trio along with Ramiro Penovi on guitar and Adrián de Felippo on double bass. In search of new sonorities for the violin in jazz, she set up in 2005 the Sophie Lüssi String Jazz Quartet and the Sophie Lüssi String Trio, for which she arranges and composes.
