Jacob Karlzon

Jacob Karlzon was born in 1970 in Jönköping, Sweden, and has established himself as one of the most personal and skilful pianists of that country’s fertile music scene. Due to his highly-developed touch and a technique, he has been favourably compared to pianists such as Keith Jarrett, Bill Evans and Jan Johansson. After completing studies at the Malmö College of music, he was soon engaged in a large variety of groups and projects: he has worked with such internationally renowned names as Billy Cobham, Bob Berg, Kenny Wheeler, Tim Hagans, Jeff Ballard and Norma Winstone, among others.

Karlzon is also a regular member of Tolvan Big Band, and composes and arranges music for Viktoria Tolstoy Group, in which he has been a member since 1999. As his band’s leader, he has so far released four albums (Today, Going Places, Take your Time and Big5) and there is a solopiano to come out soon. Karlzon has performed internationally, both with his trio and his quintet ”Big5”, at festivals and clubs in Mexico, Scotland, Germany, Sweden, Denmark, England, Ireland a other countries. He visited Buenos Aires some years ago, as a pianist for trumpeter’s Gustavo Bergalli’s band.
