Synopsis
Based on Pavese’s Dialogues with Leucò, Straub’s film is only 21 minutes long, but it contains more texture and detail than most features. If that doesn’t sound sufficiently intriguing, Straub’s work returns to a certain elemental understandings of the function of dialogue in cinema, where deliberate pauses and poetic inflections are the results of a highly stylized, anti-naturalistic approach.
