Synopsis
More than a decade ago, David Bangoura, a young Guinean man who prefers to be known for his rapper nom de guerre Black Doh, tried to get to Europe as a stole away in a merchant ship. Instead of that, his bizarre trip led him to Rosario, in the Santa Fe Province in Argentina. Determined to adapt and record his music, Black Doh got a refugee status and made a few good friends. Rubén Plataneo discovered this character when he was “worried because his mother didn’t know if he was dead or alive, and he wouldn’t stop writing songs”, and so he began following him in recording sessions, listening to his amazing stories of other members of that tiny African Diaspora (some of them terrible, like the kid who spent almost a month hiding in the ship without any food or water, and whose travelling partner died beside him), or watching him write letters to his family. But he didn’t stop there: the second half of El gran río joins the tips of his “filial and global” story by travelling to the port of Conakry, Guinea, together with Black Doh’s first album, which is sang in Soussou, French and Spanish.
