Synopsis
There’s a young man and his father. There’s a trip into an isolated place looking for peace and quiet since the son is having panic attacks. There’s a cottage and a level of isolation (plus an actor, Alejandro Awada) that echo Fabián Bielinsky’s The Aura. There’s also a young urban boy’s lack of adaptation to this “wild” place. To make matters worse –and trigger this journey within journey– a big menacing spider appears. As the film title hints, this spider is unlike any other. And Medina’s film, as it happened with The Paranoids, is not just any other film in the context of Argentine cinema. Medina is a consumed, convinced, and coherent narrator. He may have changed the settings but his hero remains. At least up to this second film, it’s a classic hero, one of those who must prove their worth by overcoming tough circumstances. This way, the young man with panic attacks will have to struggle against the effects of the spider in a mountain trip he takes with a scout he will need to trust once he realizes he has no other choice. A trip, a buddy movie, science fiction, a coming of age story, adventure. Medina has a taste for genres. Once again, we welcome that.
