Synopsis

During the last Uruguayan dictatorship (1973 to 1985), different strategies were implemented to persecute, disappear, and murder those who opposed the oppressive regime that ruled the country. This documentary proposes one of the first methodic approaches to build the memory of a fight for justice that grew stronger in recent years when the left won the presidency. Juan Álvarez Neme finds testimonies from the present but also narrations from the past. He registers committed family members that seek the truth, the finding of bodies and the work of forensic anthropologists, linking different stories that share a common goal: the quest for social justice. The macabre complicity between the dictatorships at both ends of the River Plate embarking in joint genocide actions is a valuable narrative line in this documentary, one that remains almost unseen on this side. Actually, this documentary is lucid enough to find an eloquent scene amidst the silence, fear, and impunity some people in Argentina still enjoy.
