Synopsis
In a city that’s on the verge of disappearing, the young blood seem to be the one in charge of keeping the houses standing, the joy on the streets, and the people singing in bars. That blood is a mixture of different races, styles, and perspectives on things. Over the years, in the rural city of Kofu the original Japanese locals were joined by waves of immigrant Brazilian and Thai people who form today a mix that is as unique as attractive. When gambling leads to his family going bankrupt, Takeru is then forced to work hard and risk neglecting his presence in the hip hop band “Army Village”. After a year-long research on his hometown’s current habits and situation Katsuya Tomita shaped up an original film led by its characters with the same freedom and effort with which they make up their lives, wondering about and challenging the concept of home, the feeling of being part of a nation, and the pressure for success. A remarkable portrait of a country made through its protagonists.
