Born in Buenos Aires on 15 August 1960, he is a drummer, percussionist and composer of a vast career as a performer and teacher. In 1985 he received a scholarship to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, where he graduated with honours. In 1994 Pepi obtained a scholarship from the Manhattan School of Music, where he studied for a semester later to devote to studying African music at the New York’s Fareta School of African Dance and Drumming. From then on, he has toured the United States, Argentina, Spain, France, Switzerland, Italy, the Canary Islands and Uruguay and shared stages with many artists, including Clark Terry, Danilo Pérez, Frank Carlberg, Ben Street and Olga Román, as well as with Walter Malosetti, with whom has been playing for 15 years, and Javier Malosetti, Adrián Iaies, Luis Nacht, Ernesto Jodos and Mariano Otero, among others.
Besides the great number of recordings as a sessionist, Pepi Taveira has released three albums as a soloist –Dahomey Dance, BsAs Inferno and the recent Reunión.
Taveira has been a teacher to a large number of local jazz drummers and is unanimously admired and praised by his fellow artists due to his swing approach to music, whatever the musical style he plays.
