Synopsis
On January 21st, 1960 in the Gran Rex theater, Armando Bo premiered India, the third film starred by former Miss Argentina Isabel Sarli, inspired in the song of the same title by remarkable singer José Asunción Flores. Shot entirely in Paraguay and Misiones, featuring natives from the Maka tribe as extras, a big portion of the film is spoken in guaraní-maka with Spanish subtitles. Like in other cases, the Bo-Sarli duet was a box-office hit that nonetheless had to deal with the ruthless reviews of specialized media. Forty nine years have passed since then, which was enough time for their films –now to be revisited, reevaluated, and currently screened in local and international festivals. However, India, which had been intensely searched by fans and collectors, was literally missing. In early 2009 researchers from the Pablo Ducrós Hicken Film Museum found a print resting in the museum’s deposit. From that print, they were able to get an internegative, which provided the print that is now presented in Bafici.
