Frank Carlberg

Frank Carlberg leads his quintet, with which he musicalizes texts from an enormous variety of poets from the most diverse nationalities and the Trivoli Trio, a classic jazz trio with which he carries out a very eclectic combination of compositions coming from the movies as well as circus musical language. Last but not least, the Frank Carlberg Big Band, with which he interprets original pieces, folkloric songs arrangements, standards and pieces created from standards. He has remarkable collaborations with the saxophonist Steve Lacy, the trombonist Bob Brookmeyer and the trumpet player Kenny Wheeler. He has written several pieces for big bands, chamber ensembles, symphonic orchestras and even for contemporary dance groups. Besides composing and playing the piano, he gives classes at the New England Conservatory and the Berklee College of Music. He is also a member of the Douglass Street Music Collective and is part of an artist’s cooperative company that founded the label Red Piano Records.

He will perform in two events: at Buenos Aires Jazz 2010 opening, in duo with the amazing singer Christine Correa and in quintet with John Hebert, one of the most required double-bass players at the New York scene along with two outstanding local artists: the drummer Pepi Taviera and the saxophonist Carlos Michelini.
