Guillermo Klein

Biography

Composer Guillermo Klein was born in Buenos Aires in 1969. He graduated from Berklee, Boston. There, he created the orchestra Big Van and recorded Minotauro. In 1994, he moved to New York; with his band, now known as Los Guachos, he recorded several albums, including Filtros. He returned to Buenos Aires in 2000, formed a nonet and recorded Una nave. In 2002, he moved to Barcelona, where he played in a piano duo with Jorge Rossy. In 2008, the BAJ commissioned him to write a tribute to Cuchi Leguizamón. He has collaborated with several local artists and ensembles. He composed and arranged music forMiguel Zenon’s Alma adentro andAaron Goldberg’s Bienestan. He has served as a conductor and composer for the Big Band de Girona, the JIB’s Big Band, the Metropole Orchestra of Amsterdam, the UMO of Finland, the MIT Wind Ensemble of Boston and the Jazz Schule of Basel. At this year’s BAJ, he will perform withRichard Nant (trumpet and percussion), Patricio Carpossi (guitar), Matías Méndez (bass and vocals),Sergio Verdinelli and David Xirgu (drums) and Spanish singer CarmeCanela, whose experience in the realm of jazz includes performing withPericoSambeat, Lluís Vidal andthe Big Band Jazz Terrassa, in addition to touring in Italy, Portugal, Morocco, Israel, and France. She has also performed at New York’s Village Vanguard, together with Klein, and at the Carnegie Hall, with Laura Simó.
