Biography

Saxophonist, flutist, composer, director and music producer Pierre Bertrand graduated in 1998 from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris, with an award in Harmony and Counterpoint and a diploma in Jazz Studies. He co-founded the Paris Jazz Big Band with Nicolas Folmer and conducted the Nice Jazz Orchestra. He has directed various orchestras for award ceremonies (StarAc 2006, Victorie du Jazz, Django d’Or, Cesar 2005, Everyone Sings Against Cancer, Nikos Aliagas and Friends) and served as an arranger for the orchestras of Claude Nougaro, Charles Aznavour, Lio, Pascal Obispo, Murray Head, Holliday on Ice, Nikos Aliagas, Demi Evans and Juan Carmona. He co-wrote and directed Jean-Pierre Como’s album: L’Âme Soeur. He created the music for the children’s series Martine, which earned him a Golden Record, and the flamenco opera “Madre.” He collaborated with the Orchestre Imaginaire in Nancy, the Orchestre Lamoureux, the festival Jazz au Fil de L’Oise and the Jazz à Vienne. He composed a concert for sax, for Claude Delangle and the Air Force Orchestra. He co-wrote the music for the films L’Enfant du Secret, Les Frileux and La Grande Vie, with Michel Larcange. He directed Minino Garay’s album Que lo parió, the record Nino, The Big Live, and he is finishing André Ceccarelli’s Último. In this edition of the BAJ, Bertrand will perform with a local big band.
