 Helio Alves 's biography

The pianist and composer Helio Alves was born in São Paulo, Brazil, but he studied in Boston where he met the trumpet player Claudio Roditi who got him in touch with the New York scene. He recorded two albums with Roditi Samba Manhattan Style (1995) and Double Standards (1997). He accompanied Joe Henderson’s quartet Double Rainbow on tour and participated in several Grammy winner albums: Big Band (Joe Henderson, 1996), Obrigado Brazil (Yo-Yo Ma, 2003), Brazilian Dreams (Paquito D’Rivera, 2002). He has also recorded with Duduka Da Fonseca (Samba Jazz in Black and White, Zoho Music) and Hendrik Meurkens.
