Numbers of a successful Festival

The twelfth edition of Bafici had sold a total of 200 thousand tickets, which reflects the popular interest that this cultural event, which Buenos Aires has been offering for over a decade, awakens. Taking into account those who attended activities parallel to the cinematographic screenings (open air screenings, concerts, round tables, and book presentations, among others), the total number escalates to 280 thousand people. This represents a growth by 10% in respect to 2009’s edition, not only in tickets, but also in total attendance.

The last day of BAFICI 2010 offers 104 movies for every taste, starting at 10.30AM with the screening of “You won’t miss me” by Ry Russo-Young. In this way concludes the best independent film marathon of the world that took over the city of Buenos Aires during 10 days. Tickets cost 10 pesos and are for sale in the ticket booths at the French Alliance (Av. Córdoba 946),the Hoyts Abasto cinemas (Av. Corrientes 3247), Atlas Santa Fe (Av. Santa Fe 2015), Arteplex Belgrano (Av. Cabildo 2829), Arteplex Caballito (Av. Rivadavia 5050), 25 de Mayo (Av. Triunvirato 4444), Leopoldo Lugones Auditorium of the San Martin Theater (10th floor Av. Corrientes 1530) and Malba Cinema (Av. Figueroa Alcorta 3415). Tickets can also be bought through the website www.festivales.gob.ar.

Last Festival day, free movies to celebrate

This Sunday, in which the 12th edition of BAFICI concludes, the series of outdoors free movies offer an attractive programming for every age and taste. “Outdoors Little Bafici” presents at 7.30PM at San Matrín de Tours Square (Schiaffino y Posadas) the movies created during the workshop “Animationbox” (in which children participated in the projection and concretion of ideas) and a selection of imaginative cartoons from the British AKA studio. At Carlos Gardel St., programming starts at 3PM with another selection of shorts by young Argentine filmmakers, followed at 5PM by “Velódromo” by the Chilean writer-filmmaker Alberto Fuguet, and finishing at 7PM with the documentary about the life and work of Miguel Abuelo “Buen día día” by Sergio Costantino and Eduardo Pinto.

A Little Bafici Friday

The beginning of this weekend has, this Friday afternoon, an attractive program presented by Little Bafici, the small festival inside of the Festival. The last screening of the popular and awarded “The boy who wanted to be a bear” by Jannik Hastrup will be at 3.15PM at Atlas Santa Fe 2. In the same theater at 5PM it will be screened “A tale of two mozzies” by Hastrup and Flemming Quist Moller. At 5.15PM at the Cine Teatro 25 de Mayo, located in Villa Urquiza, it will be screened “In the attic: who has a birthday today?” (picture) by Jiri Barta.

Dialogue with Angela Basset-Vance

The prestigious American actress, world-famous for her performances in “What’s love got to do with it”, “Strange days” and “Malcom X”, among other films, is in Buenos Aires integrating the Jury of the International Official Selection. Ms. Basset-Vance will have a dialogue with the public this Friday at 7.30PM at Espacio Bafici, with Osvaldo Bazán as the moderator.

A big free cinema weekend is coming

During the last weekend of this 2010 edition, BAFICI offers on Saturday and Sunday an attractive programming in the series “Outdoors cinema” and “Outdoor Baficito”. At Carlos Cardel St., “Outdoors cinema” presents this Saturday at 3PM a selection of shorts by young Argentine filmmakers; at 5PM “Tape” by Richard Linklater; and at 7PM, the original documentary “Femme Rock Doc” (photo) by Denis Elphick. At San Martín de Tours Squeare (Schiaffino and Posadas), on Saturday at 7.30PM “El viaje de Chihiro” by the Japanese animation master Hayao Miyazaki.

Dialogue with Peter Kerekes

This Saturday at 6PM at Espacio BAFICI, the Slovenian director of the creative “66 Seasons” (2003) and “Cooking History” (2009, photo), will have a dialogue with the audience about these movies and other stages of his career as a director. The journalist Javier Porta Fouz will be the moderator. Entrance will be limited to the capacity of the room.

This 9th day at BAFICI offers 151 movies in its programming, starting a 10.30AM with “Constantin and Elena” by Andrei Dascalescu at the Hoyts 8 and finishing on Sunday at 1.30AM with “The Haunted World of El Superbeasto” by Rob Zombie (note: this screening is sold out).
