THE INTERNATIONALS
The lineup of international productions is meant to show diverse thought-and-debate provoking aesthetics in a city with a knowledgeable theatregoing audience. After last edition’s hit production of Hamlet, the Schaubühne comes back with Ein Volksfeind (An Enemy of the People). Thomas Ostermeier has put together a remarkable staging that stresses the current relevance of Ibsen’s message: the degradation of society as a result of corruption and lies, no longer in 1882 but in the 21st century. Also from Germany, the Deutsches Theater arrives with Diebe (Thieves), by the great playwright Dea Loher, featuring an extraordinary cast and original staging by Andreas Kriegenburg. Since Belgian Jan Fabre is a complete artist, in this opportunity we offer a comprehensive presentation of his work, which combines visual arts, dance, theatre and music. We thus publish the book Corpus Jan Fabre, screen the film Les guerriers de la beauté and present two stage works: the dance solo Preparatio Mortis and a new version of the monumental performance De Macht der Theaterlijke Dwaasheden (The Power of Theatrical Madness), which shook up the European scene when first staged thirty years ago and has become a theatre classic. And if we stand by the idea that a festival is a forum for discussing philosophical, political or social aspects, the presence of Italian artist Romeo Castellucci is essential. He comes to Buenos Aires with a creation that has sparked intense debate in Europe for tackling and elaborating on one of the Ten Commandments. Matthew Lenton stands out among the young artists that emerged in the last few years. His production Interiors is one of the best surprises from European theatre. Peeping Tom is a Belgian company directed by Argentine choreographer Gabriela Carrizo with a visual and choreographic language that explores new forms and a high standard of performance. Having achieved enormous success in its country, from Poland comes III Furie (III Furies), directed by Marcin Liber: a harsh play, with live music and outstanding acting. Another artist that burst onto the international scene over the last few years is the Congolese Dieudonné Niangouna. He visits us with Shéda, a piece hailed by French critics as a “theatrical epic experience” and which was co-produced by FIBA, the Holland Festival and the Festival d’Avignon, among others. In the last years, Australia has stood out in such disciplines as cabaret, music hall and circus, as well as in shows that combine several of these genres. Moira Finucane is an emblematic artist of this scene; with Finucane & Smith’s Glory Box, she will bring an unusual show for Buenos Aires theatre. The Festival also welcomes Latin American directors at the forefront of theatre in their countries: Chilean Manuela Infante, Uruguayan Roberto Suárez and the Mexicans from Lagartijas Tiradas al Sol. France will be present with La Bibliothèque, a project that combines theatre, literature and personal biographies, to be held at two libraries of the City; and with the company ilotopie, which will present a wonderful aquatic fantasy titled Fous de Bassin.

LAS NACIONALES
The sixteen productions were selected as a result of a call for proposals with record-breaking submissions. The total 370 entries – mostly theater works – are indicative of two very positiveaspects: on the one hand the extraordinary creative vigor of the local theater scene, and on the other handthe great interest generated by FIBA. The decision-making process was tough, and the feeling always remains that many more productions than the ones here featured could have been selected due to theirexcellence. Nevertheless, we believe that this is an interesting sample of the quality and diversity of our City’s performing arts. Thesesixteen workswill be staged for the public at very affordable pricesand for the international programmers, in order to satisfy one of the basic premises of this section: favoring the export strategy for theater made in Buenos Aires.
MEETINGS & WORKSHOPS
This year the Festival offers three workshops conducted by prestigious national and international directors. Participation is free, but advance registration is required as the number of participants is limited. You can register in only one workshop

THE FILMS
A sectionplaying at being a small festival within the Festival. As if there was a filmevent on performing arts. The trigger was this and the diverse narrative media: fictions, documentaries, documentaries on the making of a play, filmed stage plays.Kind of arbitrary, but always based on the performing arts. An innovation that is far more elaborate than just“screening some movies at the Festival.” There are many films and many showings over many days. All screenings are free. The lineup includes top-notch titles that could make up an exhibition by themselves. Anindicator of how the Festival contents have grown in quantity and quality. And this wouldn’t have been possible without the collaboration ofBaficiand the wise vision of Marcelo Panozzo, its artistic director.

TRANSARTE
For the first time, FIBA welcomes the program TransARTE in Argentina. Created by the Institut Français – an agency of the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs in charge of promoting culture abroad – the program TransARTE promotes the circulation and development of artistic projects which escape the logic of codified genres, from performing arts to visual arts, from cinema to literature. Conceived as a brand, this innovative program, launched in Italy in 2012, continues through 2013 in Italy, Latin America and the United States.
